Frequently asked Questions

Ink & Toner

What is a print head? The print head is the most critical component in an inkjet printer as it is used to deliver the ink to the page that you are printing. Most desktop inkjet printers use cartridges that come with the print heads attached whilst a few printers have separate print heads next to which the ink cartridge is inserted. You should avoid touching the print heads due to the oils on your fingers.  Most print quality problems come from a direct result of improper care of the print head. Proper installation, ongoing attention and maintenance are the keys to prolonging the life of your print head.

What is the circuitry on a cartridge? The circuitry that is seen on some cartridges (such as some HP or Lexmark Cartridges) is the ink delivery system or print head. This mechanism is a system of nozzles that are used to push ink onto the paper.

How do I know which cartridges I need? You can search for your ink cartridge by the type of printer you have or look for the ink cartridge itself by the model number. We have several brands and models on our site.  You can view the Category Options on the left hand side of the page or utilize the search facility at the top right hand side of the home page.  Just click on “Ink cartridges” and choose the brand or model number of your printer.

I cannot find my machine listed. Do you sell supplies for it? Most likely we do. Many of the machines on the market today are made by one of the larger manufacturers and just have different names. If you would like us to check for you simply mail to bfnews@bigpond.com and we will try to provide you with the answers.

How do I tell on the website which cartridges are original and which are compatibles or re-manufactured?
Any non-original cartridge is clearly shown as either Compatible or Remanufactured.  All the others are original by default

When the order is sent online does that mean the purchase is complete? No, on receipt of your order we will process it and e-mail you confirmation prior to dispatch.

Compatible and Remanufactured Cartridges

Will I get the same quantity of printed pages from a compatible or remanufactured cartridge as a Genuine Cartridge? You should get at least the same number of printed pages from compatible or remanufactured cartridges as you will get from genuine cartridges.  In some instances compatible manufacturers actually have higher yield cartridges.  In other words larger volume ink, but their labeling should inform you of this.

Will the use of compatible, remanufactured cartridges or refills void the warranty of my printer? No, the use of compatible, remanufactured cartridges or refills should not void the warrant of your printer.

Cartridge Problems

My ink cartridge or toner cartridge is not working properly - it prints nothing, streaks, shows inconsistent ink dispersion…. How can I fix this and is the cartridge faulty?  Although unlikely, it might be possible that a faulty ink cartridge or toner cartridge is causing your problems.  Before requesting a return, try the following:

·          Make sure you removed the plastic strip(s) from the cartridge before you installed it.  These are for  shipping purposes only, and the cartridge will not function with them installed.

·          Run a Clean or Deep Clean on the printer head.  Consult your printer manual for detailed instructions or printer properties in the control panel.

·          Run a Nozzle check on the printer.  Again, consult your manual for detailed instructions.

·          If the problem remains you may have a defective cartridge…to be absolutely certain you could try an alternative cartridge… if the problem still persists after changing the cartridge then you may have a defective printer.

Why does the printer stop printing or signal "Ink Out" after printing for just a while?  Some printer models have printout-counting system, to which the printer manufacturer has pre-set the limit of the printing volume of a cartridge. If a functioning cartridge is taken out of the printer and replaced with a new one, the printer will not reset itself but continue to add numbers to the previous count until the limit is met and "Ink Out" signal is on again. You can restart the printer and run the "Replacing an ink cartridge" process again. Do remember not to replace the cartridge until the printer signals "Ink Out" for the next time.

Delivery

How much does delivery cost? Delivery within Australia is FREE for orders over $99, otherwise we charge a nominal $6.95 fee for Australia wide delivery.

Returns

What do I do if the product is faulty? Before returning products you must ensure that you have carried out the head/nozzle cleaning procedure as shown in your printer's user manual.  This procedure can be carried out many times and this should fix the majority of problems. To obtain your return credit we ask that you seek a Returns Authorization Advice from us. You can obtain this by emailing directly to bfnews@bigpond.com and stating your name and contact details, the invoice number, the goods to be returned, and the nature of the return.  When returning faulty products please enclose a print sample to show the problem.

Can I return the product if I ordered the wrong item? If the item is in its original packaging and condition (has not been opened) then a refund (excluding any expenses) will be made on return of the goods. A Return Authority (RA) Number will need to be obtained by emailing directly to bfnews@bigpond.com and stating your name and contact details, the invoice number, the goods to be returned, and the nature of the return.
